“Christy” had the money in hand and was on her way to Planned Parenthood to get an abortion, when she saw the Human Coalition Women’s Mobile Clinic parked across the street. Was it the sign she’d been praying for?
Several days had passed since Christy learned she was pregnant. As a single mom of several children, Christy didn’t think she could handle another baby. Her friends all agreed… it would be irresponsible to bring another child into her chaotic situation. Not sure what to do, Christy went to her mom for advice. Unfortunately, with two abortions in her own past, Christy’s mom refused to discuss the subject. Yet it was clear those abortions still haunted her. Christy began to question whether having an abortion would fill her with the same regret and guilt, so she prayed for a sign.
When she saw the women’s mobile clinic parked across the street from the abortion clinic and the sign that read Free Pregnancy Test and Ultrasound, Christy believed it was an answer to her prayers.
Upon entering the women’s mobile clinic, our staff greeted Christy warmly. They took their time with her, listening intently as Christy described her situation and her reasons for wanting an abortion.
There was no judgment or condescension – just love and compassion. When Christy finally saw her baby’s heartbeat on the ultrasound monitor, she knew she couldn’t go through with an abortion. Despite the advice of her friends, Christy made the courageous decision to choose life for her child.
We quickly connected Christy with local resources to help her parent well. She left our women’s mobile clinic that day with prenatal vitamins to keep her healthy during her pregnancy, as well as a plan to provide for her baby.
When asked what specifically made her choose life, Christy pointed to the location of the women’s mobile clinic that day. “God had been giving me signs all week, but none were so obvious as the women’s mobile clinic.” Christy was able to see how God’s Word came to life for her, as the first part of Jeremiah 1:5 so clearly states, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”
Please continue to pray for Christy and her children as they prepare to welcome this new life into their family.
