March 14, 2025, DALLAS, Texas — Human Coalition on Thursday applauded Sen. Bryan Hughes and Rep. Jeff Leach for introducing the Women and Child Protection Act (S.B.  2880 / H.B. 5510), legislation that protects women and their children from death or injury resulting from abortion-inducing drugs illegally shipped into Texas.

Although children are protected from abortion under Texas law, out-of-state abortion industry actors continue to exploit enforcement loopholes, endangering women and ending the lives of children in the state. Abortion pills are ordered online and shipped to the mother’s doorstep, where she is left to have her abortion all alone without any care from a doctor.

The Women and Child Protection Act shields children and women from the dangers of the abortion pill regimen and strategically overcomes legal enforcement challenges. The Act extends the long-standing civil causes of action for wrongful death and personal injury for any child or mother who become victims of illicit abortion-inducing drugs.

“This bill is the next frontier for protecting life in Texas,” stated Sen. Bryan Hughes. “Predatory abortion activists put women and children in danger by smuggling the abortion pill regimen into our state without any medical oversight or precautions. Local officials refuse to enforce the laws of the state. No more. This powerful legislation closes major loopholes abortionists utilize to exploit and prey on women and abort their children. I am proud to introduce this bill to start the next major chapter to protect the most vulnerable in our state–women and children.”

Rep. Jeff Leach said, “It is my privilege to be the House Author of the Texas Women and Child Protection Act. This crucial legislation represents a significant step forward in our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the well-being and dignity of women and children across Texas. I am proud to stand alongside my colleagues in this effort to ensure that our state is known for justice for ALL – including children and women – and remains a beacon of hope and protection for those who need it most.”

“Human Coalition pregnancy centers see firsthand how women and children become the living victims of abortion pills,”  stated Chelsey Youman, National Director of Public Policy for Human Coalition. The chemical abortion regimen starves the child to death in the womb, and as if that wasn’t barbaric enough, we serve women who are traumatized and horrified by what they experience during a chemical abortion.

“Abortion pill distributors ship these pills to women at their homes without basic precautions such as providing sonograms, physician interaction, or any guidance. Tragically, women are given few details about what they will experience, see, or feel during and after the abortion. We are grateful to Rep. Leach and Sen. Hughes for their leadership in standing up for innocent children in the womb and their mothers, and the protection the Women and Child Protection Act will provide them.”
