WASHINGTON, DC, December 14, 2023 – Human Coalition on Wednesday responded to the news that the Supreme Court will consider whether safety regulations of the abortion pill regimen should be restored.

Chelsey Youman, National Director of Public Policy for Human Coalition, on Wednesday stated:

“Abortion pills have snuffed out millions of lives in the last two decades and caused immense suffering and trauma for women. It’s far past time to remove these deadly drugs from the market – or, at the very least, restore basic safety regulations that the FDA recklessly tossed aside in the name of abortion politics. We speak for the millions of voiceless children who never had a chance to live because of chemical abortions, and for the women harmed by the abortion pill regimen. We hope that in considering this case in detail, the justices remember all these victims of chemical abortions, both living and dead.

“Our brief recounts the harrowing stories of women who came to Human Coalition clinics feeling confused and misled about the effects of abortion pills, and the trauma they experienced. We tell the stories of women who regret their abortions. Human Coalition will never stop rescuing children from abortion, and we will never stop giving women considering abortion true life-affirming alternatives. We will never stop helping post-abortive women heal. And we will not stop advocating for legislators and federal agencies to fulfill their duties of protecting all human life under the law.”

In August, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of mail-order abortion pills, and required the agency to restore safety regulations that it began rolling back in 2016. These regulations include a limit to use of the pills at seven weeks gestation, a requirement that the pills be prescribed in-person by a doctor, and mandatory reporting of non-fatal adverse effects of the pills. The Fifth Circuit halted its ruling from going into effect until the Supreme Court decided whether or not to review it.

Human Coalition joined fellow pro-life groups in asking the Supreme Court to require the FDA to uphold basic safety protocols for the abortion pill regimen, in a friend-of-the-court brief filed in November.

In the case of Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Human Coalition supports national medical organizations and doctors in their legal challenge to the FDA’s expedited and illegal approval of the drug mifepristone for chemical abortions.

Human Coalition’s brief underscores the stories of its women who suffered at the hands of abortion providers who failed to ensure their safety in distributing the abortion pill. Women say they were not warned about the serious risks and potential life-threatening complications of the pill regimen and the trauma they experienced afterward.
